HERO IMPULSE: Get Swayed by Impulse!

Hero Impulse may make you buy it on Impulse!

Hero Impulse has created a milestone. Not only is it the first bike to be introduced by Hero Motocorp Ltd., when it got separated from Honda, but is also India’s first ever on and off road bike, thus creating a whole new category of bikes in India.

HERO IMPULSE

The Look:

Impulse’s out of the box design sets it apart from its competitors. This bike can easily pass for a real dirt bike, both in looks and performance and has really caught the attention of dirt biking fans. Its 19-inch front wheel with stud pattern on tyre, a sharp front fender placed much above the tyre and wider rear tyre with LED tail lamp gives it a sporty appeal. Other attractive features include body coloured cowl, a sharp visor with number plate, high mounted clear lens indicators, rear view mirrors, an extremely high mounted muffler, a sharply defined fuel tank and motocross seat.

The Console:

The instrument console is a combination of digital and analogue features. An analogue tachometer is placed on the left, while a digital speedometer, fuel gauge, trip meter and other indicators are on the right. An additional feature of service due indicator is quite unique.

The Performance:

An especially re-tuned 150 cc engine that powers Hero’s Hunk and Xtreme is the hallmark of this bike. This 4-stroke, air-cooled, OHC engine generates a power output of 13 BHP at 7500 rpm. The torque produced by this mono cylinder engine of 13.4 Nm is achievable at a rate of 5000 rpm. The 5-speed manual gearbox follows the similar gear shift pattern of one gear down and four gears up.

The Ride:

To balance the bike’s on and off road performance, Hero has reduced its power and increased it torque output. This results in better acceleration and pick up at lower rpms. With crisp gear ratios the bike does 0 to 60 kmph in less than five seconds. Although less powerful than its rivals, its light weight manages a respectable power to weight ratio. An efficient and improved throttle response gives it an added advantage while off roading. This bike can easily notch up over 115 kmph.

The Consumption:

Its light weight (119kgs) makes it most fuel efficient, giving an impressive 55 kmpl in city conditions and more on highways.

The Comfort and Safety:

Despite its mean dirt bike looks, the bike actually is quite comfortable to ride on any kind of terrain. The sleek tank shape lets you grip it firmly between your knees and a firm palm grip provides a good handle hold. The thoughtful placement of foot-pegs enables a relaxed posture. The unique suspension system adapts according to the road conditions to make the ride smooth. Its massive ground clearance of 245 mm enables it to cross almost every possible obstruction on road. A 240mm disc brake at its front and a drum brake of 110mm at its rear makes it safe and easy to handle. A large wheelbase (1360mm) increases stability at high speeds, especially around the corners.

The Colours:

Five fantastic shades: Tar Black, Deep Blue Sea, Terra Rossa, Grassland Green and Canyon Orange.

The Cost:

It comes at a hefty price of Rs. 79,449.

The Verdict:

Unique features come with a hefty price tag, but the cost is worth it, since no other bike will give you the riding experience that Impulse does, especially off road. If you are in dire need of a bike with a pinch of everything, then go for it. It is one of the flagship bike from the house of none other than our own HERO.
