Amitabh Bachchan is the biggest star of the Indian film industry and he is a world famous personality, who has been a part of some international projects too. He has been the longest reigning actors in Bollywood, as he started his career in the seventies and is still going strong. No other Indian actor has been able to even touch this super star in terms of fan following and popularity. His Personal Background:
Born in Allahabad, Amitabh got his artistic talent in legacy from his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who was an acclaimed Hindi poet. His schooling was done from Sherwood College in Nainital and the college education was completed at Kirori Mal College in Delhi. After working in theater during his college days, Amitabh joined Bollywood to become the ‘Angry Young Man of Bollywood”. He later got married to a leading co actress Jaya Bhaduri. He had two children, Shweta Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan. Today, Abhishek is a Bollywood star too, and he is married to actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
His Professional Career:
Amitabh Bachchan made his Bollywood debut with the movie “Saat Hindustani”. He did not have to look back after that and went on to give Bollywood some of its biggest hits. He became one of the biggest stars in the industry and a film with him was guaranteed to be a block buster. “Trishul”,“Kabhi Kabhi”, “Zanjeer”, “Deewar” “Silsila” and “Kaala Patthar” are some of the best acclaimed films in his career as a young star, in the first innings of his career. He once had a fatal accident during the shooting of his hit film “Coolie”, but the prayers of his fans brought him back. Amitabh served the country as a politician too and was a Member of the Parliament from 1984 to 1987. Then he launched his film company called ABCL, but it incurred huge losses leading him on the verge of bankruptcy. He then made a comeback with the popular television show and also a successful secong innings in Bollywood with hit films like “Mohabbatein” and “Baghbaan”. In his career spanning a period of nearly four decades, Amitabh has done almost 180 films.
His Awards and Achievements:
Amitabh Bachchan got his first award in his very first film, when he was honored with the National Award for the Best Newcomer for “Saat Hindustani”. This was followed by four more National Awards in addition to fourteen Filmfare Awards. He received Padma Shri in 1984 and Padma Bhushan in 2001 from the Indian government, in addition to Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 and Superstar of the Millenium honor by Filmfare in 2000. He has also received several Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Star Dust Awards, etc. In addition to these national awards, Amitabh has been honored with countless international awards too. He also became the first Asian to be modeled at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London.
